The municipality covers an area of 16.37 square kilometres (6.32 sq mi), and has a population of 227 (as at 28 August 2006). Val lies approximately 33 kilometres (21 mi) south of Tábor, 28 km (17 mi) north-east of eské Bud jovice, and 109 km (68 mi) south of Prague.
